As a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, SciTech STEM qualifies as a tax-exempt charitable entity under Internal Revenue Code Section 170. This designation allows donors to deduct eligible contributions—both financial and in-kind—from their federal income taxes, provided they itemize deductions and comply with IRS documentation requirements. Cash donations made through platforms such as PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, or GoFundMe are generally deductible in the year they are made. SciTech STEM provides an official donation receipt for all qualifying contributions, and written acknowledgment is provided for donations of $250 or more in accordance with IRS requirements.
Product and equipment donations—commonly referred to as in-kind contributions—may also be tax deductible. In most cases, individuals and businesses can deduct the fair market value of donated property, subject to IRS regulations and applicable percentage limitations based on adjusted gross income. A receipt describing the donated items is issued to support proper recordkeeping; however, donors are responsible for determining and documenting fair market value when required. Beyond potential tax savings, donors benefit from supporting community-based science and technology education, strengthening workforce readiness, and demonstrating measurable social responsibility.
